Happy Birthday to Andrei Vasilevskiy as he turns 22 today!

Vasilevskiy came to the Lightning in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft as the 19th overall selection in the 1st round. The pick used to make the selection was acquired in a two-part trade in February of 2012. Steve Yzerman was selling off assets with the Lightning far out of playoff contention. He traded Steve Downie to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Kyle Quincey. Yzerman then flipped Quincey to the Detroit Red Wings for Sebastien Piche and this first round pick.

Vasilevskiy is on the last year of his entry level contract, but has already signed a three-year extension for $3.5 million a year. As he grows and becomes the starter for the Tampa Bay Lightning either this year or next year, that contract will look like a major discount. He has the potential to be an elite, All-Star goalie in the NHL.

In his NHL career, he is 18-15-1 with a 2.60 GAA and .913 SV%. In the playoffs, he is 4-5-1 with a 2.85 GAA and .920 SV%.

Vasilevskiy has the following achievements to his name:

  • U18 World Junior Challenge Bronze Medal
  • U20 World Junior Championship Bronze Medal (twice)
  • U20 World Junior Championship Silver Medal
  • World Championship Gold Medal
  • KHL Finals Appearance
  • KHL Rookie of the Year award
  • NHL Stanley Cup Finals Appearance
