Every year before the big training camp starts, the young prospects and minor leaguers come in first. They get a couple weeks before the veterans have to report and that allows them to get focused instruction from coaches, work with the strength staff on their program, and work on nutrition. Most of these players will either be headed back to Juniors in the Canadian Hockey League after camp or to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. Players that are playing in NCAA or are maintaining their NCAA eligibility will not be at Rookie Training Camp.

The Tampa Bay Lightning, as they have done in years past, are teaming up with the Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, and Washington Capitals for a rookie tournament allowing each organizations prospects to participate in a three-game round robin tournament against each other. This gives the coaches and front office staff a different opportunity to evaluate players and help guide them into being better hockey players.

This year, the tournament will be held in Coral Springs, Florida at the Florida Panthers IceDen from Saturday, September 17th through Tuesday, September 20th. The Lightning will kick of the tournament with the Capitals on Saturday at 2:30pm. They’ll take on the Predators on Sunday at 2:30pm. Then they’ll wrap up the tournament on Tuesday against the Panthers at 1:30pm.
