YouTube Tuesday is a weekly feature where we feature a video that has to do with the Lightning or a Lightning player when they were with another team. We may occasionally feature important moments in the world of hockey.

This week’s YouTube Tuesday features Tyler Johnson’s first career hat trick. It came on January 1st, 2014 at home against the Colorado Avalanche.

The first goal came just over 7 minutes into the 2nd period to open up the scoring. With the forward line of Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, and Martin St. Louis cruising into the offensive zone, St. Louis was in the center of the ice and passed it over to Palat before continuing down low. Palat pulled the puck back towards Victor Hedman at the left point. Hedman laid into it with a one-timer that beat Semyon Varlamov but hit the post. Johnson was ready at the crease to tap the puck home.

The second goal came right after a faceoff. The puck was played back to Victor Hedman at the left point where he took another big one-timer on net, but it hit St. Louis in front of the net. With the man in front tied up with St. Louis, Johnson pounced on the puck and put it up over the shoulder of Sami Aittokallio who had replaced Varlamov in goal for Colorado.

The third goal started with Palat winning a puck battle behind the net and passing to St. Louis. St. Louis moved the puck up to Sami Salo at the left point who moved it quickly over to Hedman for another one-timer blast on net. Johnson got his stick on the puck and tipped it in past Aittokallio to complete the hat trick.

Since then, Johnson has added two more hat tricks; one against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2014-15 season and another in the 2015 playoffs against the New York Rangers for the first ever playoff hat trick for the Lightning.
