Today is the day we’ve been waiting for. It’s been a long summer, but we’re finally going to see NHL (kinda) action on the ice again! The World Cup of Hockey is kicking off with some tune up games before the actual tournament starts. And guess what? You can watch them! Some of the games will be on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU. However, 8 of the 12 games will only be available on ESPN3 in the US. In Canada, every game will be on SportsNet and TVA Sports.
ESPN3 is ESPN’s online streaming service. Since they won’t be showing those games on actual TV, you’ll have to use a computer or phone to watch these games. But of course you can hook that up to your TV! ESPN3 is available to anyone that has a cable package that includes ESPN. If you haven’t used it before, all you’ll have to do is sign in to your cable provider when prompted on ESPN3.com to gain access.
Today’s games will feature Sweden verses Finland in Helsinki at Noon ET on ESPN3, Czech Republic verses Team Russia from St. Petersburg at 12:30 pm ET on ESPN3, and Europe verses North America at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN2.
Tomorrow will follow with Canada verses USA at 7:00 pm ET on ESPNU. Saturday features three more games, followed by one game each on Sunday and Tuesday before wrapping up with three games on Wednesday before the World Cup of Hockey starts on Saturday September 17th with USA verses Europe and Czech Republic verses Canada.
You can check out the full schedule on NHL.com.
