Morning everyone. Sorry for the delay in this. I am currently in Sunrise at the Prospect Tournament. We also had an adventure last night when a “gas was dispelled” in our hotel while we were trying to watch Canada crush the Czech Republic and had to move to the car for a while. Anyways, here we go!

Team USA 0 versus Team Europe 3

Ben Bishop – DNP

Well, well, well. I guess Head coach John Tortorella didn’t plan on being able to beat Team Europe. This team was built with the thought of “We’re going to beat Canada!” Well, they forgot that they needed to beat Europe and the Czech Republic teams too. Goalie Jonathan Quick didn’t look great, and now you have to wonder if Ben Bishop will get a chance in the next game or if Torts will go back to Quick. There next game will be Tuesday against Team Canada.

Team Czech Republic 0 versus Team Canada 6

Ondrej Palat – 0-0-0, -1, 2 SOG, 2 Blocks, 19:38 TOI
Andrej Sustr – 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM, 2 SOG, 1 Hit, 1 Block, 18:02 TOI

Steven Stamkos – 0-1-1, +1, 2 PIM, 4 SOG, 15:53 TOI

From all reports (because I missed much of the game with our hotel problems), Palat was all over the ice and was one of the better players for the Czech Republic. On the other hand, it sounded like Sustr was not having a great game. Palat did have a really good chance or two, but was stone walled by Carey Price of old. Palat was the third leading forward for the Czech Republic in TOI while he had been around 5-6 spot during the pre-tournament games. Palat’s 6 total shot attempts (2 on goal, 3 blocked, 1 miss) were tied for first on Team Czech Republic.

Steven Stamkos’ 8 shot attempts (4 on goal, 1 blocked, 3 missed) were first among Canada’s forwards and second on the team behind Drew Doughty’s 9. His 4 shots on goal were tied for 3rd on the team. Stamkos was also 4th among Canada’s forwards for ice time. He was even on ice for more than Sydney Crosby who was an insane plus-4 on the night with a goal a two assists. Stamkos’ assist came as a secondary assist on Crosby’s game winning goal to open the scoring on the night.
