Milestone Expectations for the 2016-17 Season

Steven Stamkos will likely lead the Lightning all-time in power play goals. He needs 5 to pass Vincent Lecavalier, who holds the record now with 112. The unrealistic but totally awesome hope is that he could get that 4th (tying) or 5th (leading) goal on October 18th, the night of the ceremony honoring Lecavalier.

Ondrej Palat needs 34 points to reach 200. He, Tyler Johnson, and Brian Boyle are all currently tied for 5th all-time in Lightning short-handed goals. Two more for any of them and they’ll move into a tie for 4th.

Alex Killorn will hit 300 games played after 28 games. Also he will have graduated from Harvard, if you didn’t know.

Tyler Johnson will reach 300 games if he plays in 58 games. 30 goals will put him at 100. 4 Assists will get him to 100. 34 points and he’ll have 200. And if three of his goals are game-winners, he’ll hit 20.

Nikita Kucherov needs 32 goals to reach 100, and only 19 assists to get to 100. In other words, 51 points will put him at 200. He really needs something to distinguish him from all the other Nikitas.

Ryan Callahan only needs 80 games to have played 700, but we know he almost certainly can’t get that unless he comes back from his hip surgery this Saturday against the Devils and doesn’t miss another game. It also seems unlikely that Cally will score the 28 goals he needs to hit 200 career, or the 25 assists he needs for 200. But he only needs 19 minor penalties to reach 400 PIM.

Brian Boyle will reach 600 games played if he can play 51 this season. He’s only 20 goals and 36 assists away from 100 in each of those categories, and therefore needs only 56 points for 200, but none of this is likely. He only needs 78 PIM to top 500 though, so he might reach that during the opener against Detroit.

JT “TJ” Brown will celebrate his 200th game played this season, most likely on Saturday against New Jersey. He could celebrate his 100th PIM even earlier, as he only needs 5 to reach it. Skol.

Cedric Paquette, if he once again became Hot, could get his 50th point. He’s only 19 away from it.

Valtteri Filppula needs 5 goals for 150. Last year he score 8 on 101 shots (the worst shooting percentage of his career). But he will get his 4000th faceoff win at some point this year, so that’s good! We’ll have to wait for the Passing Project to become real-time before we can celebrate his prowess at passing. He should hit 400 career points as he needs only 19 to reach it.

I feel pretty certain that with only 9 games needed, Jonathan Drouin should hit 100 this season, barring any more spectacular rifts. And he should hit 50 points soon too, with only 8 needed. Hopefully some of that comes as he reaches 50 assists by dishing 16 times to Stamkos (or whoever, I’m not picky).

Vladislav Namestnikov sits right now at 127 games played, so it’s possible he’ll hit 200 late in the season.

Anything Brayden Point does will be the very first time he’s ever done it. Unless he does it again.

Braydon Coburn should be playing in his 700th game this Saturday against New Jersey. That’s an incredible achievement. He could also hit 40 goals this season as he only needs 2. Any 2 points he gets will bring him up to 180 career points.

Jason Garrison need play only 40 games to hit 500. Three goals will get him a career 50 (imagine if he could do both on the same night!). He also needs only 1 point for 150. For a close parallel to that…

Victor Hedman will play his 500th game this season. He needs 30 more games to reach that monumental achievement. One goal will get him to 50. 20 assists will get him to 200, and 16 PIM will get him to 400. 7 more assists and he’ll tie Dan Boyle for the most assists by a Lightning defenseman. Most points by a Lightning defenseman is in reach too, as he sits 24 points back from Dan Boyle, who had 253. Hedman is also 14 points behind Pavel Kubina in that category.

Anton Stralman will play his 550th game tomorrow night against Detroit. While he will probably not also score the 14 goals he needs to reach 50 tomorrow, he might get the 1 assist he needs to reach 150. 15 points will put him at 200 for his career.

Immediately upon scoring his first goal, Slater Koekkoek will have scored his first NHL goal!

Nikita Nesterov needs 16 games to have played in 100 NHL games. That’s nothing to scoff at.

Andrej Sustr will hit 200 career games with 6 more played. He only needs 8 points to get to 50, as well.

Ben Bishop is 19 games away from 250 played, and 30 away from 250 started. 20 wins will give him his 150th. Unfortunately, he will probably give up his 500th goal at some point, hopefully in the distant future, as he currently sits at 499 career GA. If we can give him 2 more shutouts then he will have 20 in his career. Also, Bishop will become the goaltender with the most Lightning games played this season as he is only 11 back from Darren Puppa at 195 right now, and will have the most Lightning saves when he gets his 25th save of the year.

Andrei Vasilevskiy may have already achieved a goal no on ever expected: autocorrect now knows how to spell his name correctly. Also he can play his 50th NHL game (he sits at 40 now), get his 20th win (18), give up his 100th goal (92) and make his 1000th save (969).

Team Milestones

The Lightning will play their 2000th game this season, and will record their 750th win, hopefully on Saturday as we currently have 748 all-time wins. Someone will score the 5000th Lightning goal this season (4928)!
